Hattie Darby, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, in a local health care facility.

She attended Howard High School, and Chattanooga State.  Hattie was married to Haskell Darby Sr., for 70 years.  A union that blessed them with 5 children, Orlando Sr., Haskell Jr., Jennifer, Patrick, and Keith Sr.  She was a loving and involved grandmother to 13 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Hattie was a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She worked for Chattanooga City Schools as a Teacher’s assistant, working with Kindergarten and Special Needs students.  Upon retiring from the school system after many decades, she worked for Unum in the mail room until her latest retirement.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hattie Sims; brothers, William Sims, Garner Sims, Robert Sims, and Gaines Sims; sisters, Edna Hyatt and Elizabeth Bonner; and great-grandson, Sebastian Stigger.

Hattie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Haskell Darby, Sr., sons, Orlando (Sharon) Darby Sr., Haskell Darby Jr., Patrick (Lori) Darby, and Keith Darby Sr., and daughter, Jennifer Pasley, all of Chattanooga, TN; brother, John Sims of Chicago, IL; sisters, Eula Thomas and Inez Sims, both of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Orlando Darby, Jr., Shannon Pasley, Shanara (Roderick) Stigger of Huntsville, AL, Kedrick Darby, Anai RaSoul of Memphis, TN, Lynetta Darby, Keith Darby, Jr., Jennifer Darby, Brandon Darby, Chris Robbs, Takema Darby, Caleb Darby, and Sophia Darby; 14 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of many other cherished relatives and friends.

Hattie will lie in state on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
