Gene Lowell Howard, 86, a resident of McDonald, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a retiree of Suburban Propane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Brown Howard; brothers, Ike Howard and Don Howard; sisters, Evelyn McSpaddin, Muriel Chadwick, Ann Howard and Jane Howard; and great-grandson, Bryson Scott.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara Sliger Howard; four children, Noel Scott and wife, Becky, Mickey Scott and wife, Samantha, Rhonda Cross and Marquitta Kelly and husband, Kevin; sister-in-law, Mary Howard; grandchildren, Josh and Jessica Scott, Joseph and Brad Cross, Colton and Kerstien Scott and Kala Efaw; great-grandchildren, Addison and Kinlee Cross, Tylan Hobbs, Madeline Scott and Karly and Thomas Kelly; special friend, Jerry Samples; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory, with Reverend Cliff Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery in McDonald, with Colton Scott, Joseph Cross, Brad Cross, Josh Scott, Jerry Samples and Aaron Howard serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 at the funeral home.
