Lee University’s School of Music will welcome tubist Dr. Ryan Sorenson for his performance on Friday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall.

The performance will feature selections such as Elizabeth Raum’s “Sweet Dances,” Michael Daugherty’s “Reflections on the Mississippi,” and Barbara York’s “Elegy for an Angel.”

“I am incredibly excited to welcome my good friend and musician, Dr. Ryan Sorenson, to Lee,” said Dr. Jesse McConnell, director of music events and instructor of tuba and euphonium at Lee. “He is a true virtuoso of his instrument, and this is a performance you do not want to miss.”

Dr. Sorenson is the newly appointed assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at Valdosta State University (VSU) and has recently accepted the position of director of operations and ensemble director with the Atlanta Low Brass Academy. Prior to joining the faculty at VSU, he taught on the faculty at Stetson University, Seminole State College, Bethune Cookman University, Rollins College, and Eastern Florida State College.

Dr. Sorenson was recognized in several national and international solo competitions. He won the Artist Solo Competition at the Southeast Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference in 2022 and was a semi-finalist at both the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference’s Artist Tuba Competition and the Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Artist Tuba Competition.

Dr. Sorenson received his doctor of music from Florida State University, his master of music from Northwestern University, and his bachelor of music from the University of South Florida.

The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Squires Recital Hall is in the Humanities Center on Lee’s campus.
