Chattanooga firefighters rescued an elderly man who fell approximately 50 feet on Wednesday evening.

Green Shift companies responded at 8:19 p.m. to 310 North Crest Road on Missionary Ridge. They learned that an 88-year-old man had suffered a significant fall and was at the bottom of a steep embankment.

Firefighters set up a rope system and raised him up in a Stokes basket. He was transported to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS with minor injuries.

Fire officials said the man was trying to retrieve a ball from a neighbor’s yard that had gone over the edge when he fell.

Squad 13, Squad 1, Engine 4, Engine 15, and Battalion 2 responded, along with Medic 11 and CPD officers.
