Barbara Durkin
Barbara Durkin of Hixson passed away recently at the age of 78.
She was born in Valdosta, Ga., and raised in Bucklin, Missouri and Dallas, Texas.
She was a longtime member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church.
A registered nurse, she worked locally for Parkridge Medical Center for several years and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her birthmother, Madeline Hunt, adoptive parents, Anna Louise Tamplin and Richard Gerald Tamplin and her brother Robert Hunt.
Barbara’s greatest love was for her family and friends. Her favorite times were holiday gathering, family vacations, or just small family get togethers.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, William J. Durkin of Hixson, son William T. Durkin (Gina) of Hixson, Daughter Nikki Gourley (Paul) of Alexandria, VA, as well as countless friends and extended family. She will live on in all those who knew her and loved her.
Barbara leaves a legacy of wisdom, generosity, a caring spirit and a strong presence of love in the heart of all who knew her. She faced life’s challenges with grace and dignity, finding strength in her faith and family. She experienced all the good that life had to offer from travel to simple pleasures and the joy she found in her friends and family.
Public viewing will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. and internment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
