Homeowners considering remodeling can get great ideas from how-to-television shows, magazines and newspapers, but without careful planning a dream project can take on nightmarish qualities, said Teresa Groves, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Southern Tennessee.
“Homeowners occasionally contact us to express their frustration with home remodeling projects that turned sour,” Said Ms. Groves. “They should have called before they started their projects.”
To help homeowners make informed decisions, the HBAST Remodelers Council is presenting a renovation seminar at the Home Builders Association located at 3221 Harrison Pike on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. with hor’devores. The seminar will be from 6-7 p.m. Bring plans and talk with a professional remodeler from 7-8 p.m.
Seminar presenters will guide homeowners through the various stages of the remodeling process including: choosing a professional contractor, remodeling pricing, financing the remodeling, what to consider when remodeling and other aspects of the remodeling process.
Ms. Groves said millions will be spent on home remodeling and improvement in the Chattanooga area so it is crucial homeowners do their homework before they sign a contract with a qualified remodeling contractor.
Because remodeling is a growing trend, there is opportunity for fly-by-night operators to take advantage of trusting homeowners.
Pre-registration is required. Call 624-9992 or e-mail rrhodes@hbast.org. There is ample onsite parking and lots of door prizes. Although the seminar is free, attendees are asked to contribute a non-perishable food for the Chattanooga Food Bank.
