CSO Closes Pops Series With Tribute To Sinatra

  • Wednesday, April 9, 2008

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera closes its Pops series with "Simply Sinatra" on April 18 at 8 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre. This concert features vocalist Steve Lippia in a tribute to Sinatra and some of his greatest hits including New York, New York, My Way, Fly me to the Moon, That's Life, The Lady is a Tramp, It was a Good Year and many others.

"When I first heard Steve Lippia sing, I was blown away by his effortless and smooth sound, the phrasing and breath control, and his complete comfort on stage," said CSO Music Director and Conductor Robert Bernhardt.

"It was only then that I noticed that he sounded like Frank Sinatra, but not just any Frank Sinatra, the man at his best."

Review for Steve Lippia:
Steve Lippia has become a prominent, in-demand vocalist and has quickly established his place among the finest interpreters of "standards" and traditional pop music in the nation. Mr. Lippia's youthful, energetic talent and powerful show creates a perfect blend of "classic" with "today." His performances introduce a new generation to this timeless music, while also appealing to long-time listeners.

"I really don't know how he does it, but however it's done, Steve is one tremendous singer. In this performance you will hear his respectful, glorious and magical tribute to the many great hits of Frank Sinatra, all of them backed by the great Big Band sound that Frank most often used," said Maestro Bernhardt. "The songs are timeless, the arrangements are splendid, the singer is amazing and all in all, if you're a Sinatra fan, it doesn't get any better than this.”

Tickets for "Simply Sinatra" start at $30. They can be purchased online at chattanoogasymphony.org, by calling the CSO box office at 267-8583 or by visiting the CSO at 630 Chestnut St. "There are less than 250 seats still available, which is a great way to close our Pops season, but anyone wishing to purchase tickets should do so as soon as possible to ensure availability," said Marketing and Communications Manager Stephanie Blaylock.
