Dr. Linda Thompson
Dr. Linda Thompson, associate professor of music education, received Lee’s 2008 Excellence in Scholarship Award during spring commencement exercises. President Paul Conn awarded Dr. Thompson and two other faculty members the prestigious Excellence Awards in honor of their contributions to Lee.
These awards are considered the highest faculty honors and are presented annually in recognition of teaching, scholarship, and advising. The recipient for Excellence in Scholarship is selected by a committee of faculty members.
“She chairs the graduate program in music education here at Lee and, in the life of scholarship, leads by example with her own commitment to continuing research and publication,” said Dr.
Conn.
Prior to Lee, Dr Thompson served as an assistant professor of music at the Crane School of Music and the University of Minnesota. She has been published in the Bulletin of the Council of Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Therapy, Music Educators’ Journal, General Music Today, and the Journal of Research in Music Education. In addition, she has taught private piano to children and adults for the past 25 years.
Dr. Thompson is the former chair of the Music Education Special Interest Group of AERA and the current national chair of Society for Music Teacher Education. Recently, Dr. Thompson has also served as an editor for the publication “Diverse Methodologies in the Research of Music Teaching and Learning.”
