Served In Women's Air Corps During World War II

Juanita Smartt Newman, 92, died on Wednesday, October 16 at The Bridge in Monteagle. 

She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. Juanita served our country in the Women’s Air Corps during World War II and retired as a Secretary with TVA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Lee and Dove Smith Smartt; her husband,     Lawrence W. Newman and a son, Stephen Dennis Newman.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Sue Smith of Conyers, Ga., and Brenda Louise Major of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Eric and Mark Frazier, Kevin Newman, Melissa Newman McCuskey, Julie Smith Burdette and Ricky Smith.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at the North Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
