Chattanooga Mocs Host Furman; Celebrate Senior Day Sunday

The Chattanooga Mocs softball team will host Furman this weekend in the final home three-game Southern Conference series. UTC and the Paladins will face off in a double header Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and conclude with Senior Day Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Senior Day festivities will take place Sunday prior to the game. The Mocs will honor two managers and three student-athletes.

Saturday is Youth Day – free admission for 12 and under with your youth softball jersey.
Sunday will be Senior Day – Trading Cards and autographs.

Chattanooga and Mercer are tied for first in the SoCon standings at 10-5. UNCG and Samford are tied for third at 9-6. Chattanooga ranks third in the NCAA for double plays turned per game. The Mocs have 27 on the year and average 0.61 per game. Camryn Cernuto is second  in the NCAA for sacrifice bunts per game.

Kaili Phillips leads the SoCon in hit by pitch (14) and is ranked second on the active career leaders list in the NCAA with 57. She owns the Mocs career record with 47. Jayce Purdy is 11th in the NCAA for Caught Stealing By. She has thrown out 13 runners trying for the extra base.

Taylor Long is eighth in the NCAA for Stirkeouts per Seven Innings. She averages 9.9. Chattanooga leads the SoCon in wins, batting average, hits, doubles, hit by pitch, on base percentage, sac hits, ERA, shutouts, saves, fewest hits allowed, fewest runs allowed, most strikeouts, lowest opponent batting average and fewest sac hits allowed.

 Furman enters the series at 21-26 overall and 6-9 in league play after taking two-of-three from Wofford this past weekend at home. Sierra Tufts, the SoCon Pitcher of the Week, picked up both victories this past weekend after allowing just one run on four hits in a combined 14 innings against the Terriers. The righthander fanned 14 batters and allowed only three walks in her two outings. Centerfielder Ashlee Lykins leads the Paladins with a .363 batting average, 58 hits, 30 runs, and 17 stolen bases in 20 attempts. She has reached base safely in 43 of Furman's 47 games this season. Designated player Catln Goldwait went 7-for-12 at the plate against the Terriers, including tying her own school record for hits in a single game with five safeties in Saturday's first game against Wofford.
