William C. “Bill” Carter, 67, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, April 22, 2013.  

He and his wife owned and operated Extendlife, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William C. and Marjorie Carter, Sr.; his father, State Rep. William C. Carter, Jr.; and his mother, Virginia L. Carter.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Vantha; his “grandsons”, Mason and Nicholas Reach (Houston) and several cousins.

Bill was a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church.  He attended UTC, CSTCC, Orlando Metro College, the FBI Academy, the U. S. Secret Service Academy, the Chattanooga Police Academy, and the Chattanooga Fire Academy.

He was a past member of Park Lodge 75 of the Knights of Pythias.

Bill was a popular local radio personality in the 60s and 70s known by his many loyal fans as “Wild Bill Carter”. He later served on the Chattanooga Police Department as a detective, and the Chattanooga Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT.  One of his proudest achievements with the police department was his contribution to the design of the current shield worn by today’s sworn personnel.  He, along with Chief Trammel “Skip” Vaughn, re-created the image of the department’s uniforms, marked vehicles, and moto, “Let None Live in Fear” in the mid 1970s.

He was active as a volunteer with the American Heart Association for many years and trained several thousand people in CPR in the area.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 26, from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the funeral home with Reverend Genevieve DeHoog and Reverend Dr. Dennis W. Flaugher officiating.

Burial will follow at Brainerd United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
