Whitfield School Board Approves CCHS Head Football Coach

  • Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Chad Barger will bring his passion for football to the head coaching position at Coahulla Creek High School.

Mr. Barger began playing football when he was six and was a two-time all-region football player at Bledsoe County High School before graduating in 1996. The next year, he was named assistant coach at the middle school there while he worked toward his bachelor’s degree in secondary education of history and geography.

He brings 30 years of football experience as player and coach and has helped several teams gain dramatic improvements.

In his resume, Barger wrote that his small stature led him “to become a student of the game to be successful” by focusing on fundamentals and technique. His tenure at Sequatchie County High School is an example of his leadership, coaching the team from a two-season record of 1-19 to the state playoffs as the seventh-ranked team in Tennessee.

Mr. Barger describes himself as a positive role model students can believe in and trust.

“I bring an honest, hard working, disciplined attitude to the young men I coach,” he wrote in his resume. “I coach for the love of teaching young men the game of football and how to become productive citizens.”

Mr. Barger has been leading teams in east Tennessee since launching his career in 1997 at Bledsoe County Middle School. While at his most recent position with Clay County Schools in Celina, Tn., he launched three team programs: weightlifting, off-season conditioning, and summer practice.

The school board approved the recommendation to hire Coach Barger Tuesday during a called meeting at the central office.
