Longtime Pianist In Several Local Churches Was Volunteer Of The Year At St. Barnabas

Norma R. Freudenberg, 90, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at St. Barnabas Nursing Home. 

She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was the daughter of the late M. E. and Nora Helton Ruffner. 

She spent her life time playing for church services. She learned to play piano and violin at the age of seven. She was pianist at First Church of the Nazarene for 35 years, Calvary Bible Church for 25 years, and for St. Barnabas Sunday Morning Chapel for the last six years. She also was an accomplished organist.

Mrs. Freudenberg was named St. Barnabas Volunteer of the Year in 2012. She was preparing to play the piano at St. Barnabas when she had her final illness.

She is survived by two sons, Earl (Julie) Freudenberg of Hixson and Eddie Freudenberg of St. Barnabas; granddaughter, Amy (Russell) Dover; grandson, Mark (Tara) Freudenberg; and two great-granddaughters, Rachel and Juliana Dover.  

The family wishes to thank granddaughter Amy, son Eddie and the St. Barnabas staff for making Mrs. Freudenberg comfortable during her final hours. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 4001 Mountain Creek Red Bank, TN 37415 with the funeral service to begin at6:30 p.m. with Dr. Bill Henry, Reverend John Andrus, and Chaplain Buckley Robbins officiating. 

Mrs. Freudenberg will be laid to rest with her late husband, Charles Robert Freudenberg on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.  Johnny Steave, Joe Pennington, George Ellis, Tom Sneed, Mike Huskey, Terry Jones, Larry Ryan, Sammie Smith and Bill Knowles will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men at Calvary Bible Church. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Norma's name to Calvary Bible Church, 4001 Mountain Creek Road, P.O. Box 15506, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, or St. Barnabas Nursing Facility, 950 Siskin Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.
