State Rep. Ron Travis (R-Pikeville) joined with Governor Bill Haslam this week to present Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to the cities of Pikeville and Spring City. The grant money will be used to assist the communities with sewer system rehabilitation projects.

In total, Pikeville will receive $540,000 and Spring City will receive $380,000.

“Community Development Block Grants play an important role in helping communities across Tennessee repair and upgrade their infrastructure,” said Rep. Travis. “In turn, these improvements help attract businesses and improve economic development in the area.”

Allocation of CDBG funds is based on priorities set at local levels where community needs are best known. The CDBG program is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development.

“I am thankful to the Department of Economic and Community Development for assisting with this funding, and look forward to working with our state agencies to bring our state one step closer to being the number one location in the Southeast for high quality jobs,” Rep. Travis concluded.

Rep. Travis is a member of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee and House Insurance & Banking Committee. He is serving his first term in the Tennessee General Assembly and represents District 31, which includes all of Rhea, Bledsoe, Sequatchie and a portion of Roane Counties. He can be reached by email at Rep.Ron.Travis@capitol.tn.gov or by calling 800 449-8366, ext. 11450.
