2 Groups Vying For Reuse Of Former Piney Woods School

  • Saturday, August 16, 2014

Two groups are vying for the reuse of the former Piney Woods Elementary School at 701 Hooker Road.

Proposals were issued and received by Hamilton County Real Property Office. They were opened on July 3.

Expressing an interest in the property were the Alton Park Development Corporation and Calvary Chapel.

School officials said, "Both proposals appear to be well thought out, with plans that would both improve the site and provide needed services to the Alton Park Community."

The school board is expected to reach a decision at a meeting next Thursday.

The development group said Alton Park, Piney Woods and the Emma Wheeler Homes do not have a recreation center or playground. They said this facility has served those needs since the school closed. The development group has been overseeing those programs.
