Lee University’s Department of History, Political Science and Humanities honored Dr. Aaron Simmons as the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus at a department breakfast during Lee’s Homecoming festivities.

“We are very excited to name Simmons our department Alumnus of the Year,” said Dr. Jared Wielfaert, assistant professor of humanities at Lee. “His outstanding record of teaching and publications has set a high benchmark that we want to imitate as a faculty. His interdisciplinary and inquisitiveness in so many different areas of the humanities are precisely the kinds of dispositions we want to foster in our own students.”

Dr. Simmons graduated from Lee University in 1999 with a major in history. He then went to Florida State University and received a master’s degree in humanities. After attending FSU, he moved to Nashville and received both a master's and a doctorate degree in philosophy from Vanderbilt University.

Since finishing his doctorate in 2006, Dr. Simmons has been on faculty at The University of the South, Vanderbilt, Hendrix College, and is currently the adjunct professor of philosophy at Furman University.

Working primarily in the area of postmodern philosophy of religion, he is the author and editor of numerous books and over 40 book chapters and articles. He and his wife, Vanessa, have one son, Atticus.
