CHI Memorial To Offer Free Smoking Cessation Course

  • Monday, December 28, 2015

CHI Memorial’s Rees Skillern Cancer Institute will offer Freedom From Smoking, an American Lung Association program, beginning Jan. 6, 2015.

"The free eight-week course helps participants learn how to overcome tobacco addiction so they can start enjoying the benefits of better health," officials said.

The program is offered in a small group setting and includes the following topics: lifestyle changes that make quitting easier, stress management, avoiding weight gain and staying smoke-free for good.

Research shows people who participate in stop-smoking programs with a support system have greater success, compared to those who try to quit on their own.

“This is a great way to start off the new year right and make a positive difference in your life”, said Gerre Schwert, MSW, LCSW, class facilitator.  “No matter your age, you will experience numerous health benefits when you stop smoking.  You are never too old to quit.”

The class meets from noon-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 6-Feb. 25, 2016 at the CHI Memorial Center for Cancer Support, Memorial Plaza, 605 Glenwood Dr., Suite 307.  The course is free and lunch is provided.  For more information or to register for the Freedom From Smoking course, call 423-495-7778.
