McCallie's Justin Glover and Carson McKoon combined for a 6-hit, 2-0 shutout win in the opener and Quinn Smith had a home run and three RBIs in the 7-3 nightcap victory as the Tornado defeated visiting Pope John Paul II in D-II Middle/East Region baseball games Saturday.
McCallie improved to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the region, whole Pope John Paul fell to 8-3 and 0-3 in region play.
First Game:Justin Glover improved to 3-0 on the season with five innings of scoreless ball, striking out four and scattering four hits.
William Korn's two run single in the third provided all the runs McCallie needed for the win.
Second Game: McCallie's Quinn Smith was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs, while Ethan Cady was 1-for-2 and an RBI.
Winning pitcher Drew Vaughn (2-1) struck out six, allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings of work.
For PJPII, top hitters were Ben Brooks (2-3, 1 run) , Pace Dempsey (2-3) , Logan Taylor (2-4, 1 run).
