Lee Baseball Records 5-0 Victory Over Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Lee University struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on a solo run in the sixth inning to record a 5-0 non-conference victory over Young Harris College Wednesday evening at the Zell B. Miller Field.

The Flames improved to 26-17-1 while the Mountain Lions fell to 14-28.

Lee travels to Memphis for a Gulf South Conference series with Christian Brothers University this weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.

The Flames recorded 10 hits in the win with Siosi Poti, Ben Holland and Luke Toms claiming two safeties each. Four of Lee’s hits went for extra bases. Holland doubled and homered, while Poti doubled and Toms drilled his second home run of the season.

Tallying one single each were Chris Adams, Andres Nelo, MJ Brown and Josh Tate.

“We had a lot of hard outs in addition to our hits tonight and thought overall we swung the bats well,” said Lee head coach Mark Brew.

Young Harris stroked six hits in the loss. Nick Sexton and Zach Wall each legged out doubles.

Lee took advantage of two Young Harris errors in the first inning to open up a 4-0 lead against Mountain Lion starter Michael Livingstone (1-3). Adams started the scoring with a sacrifice fly before Holland added an RBI double to left field. Toms added a two-run home run in the frame.

Holland led off the sixth inning, following a 16 minute weather delay, with his team-leading seventh round-tripper of the season.

Grayson Bailey (3-2) earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings. He scattered three hits and struck out five.

“Pitching was stellar all night,” said Brew. “We would have used Chevis (Hoover) longer, but the weather delay took too long and we didn't want to risk injury.”

Chevis Hoover started and allowed just one hit, one walk and fanned three in three innings. He was lifted following a 34 minute lightning delay in the middle of the fourth inning.

Kyle Briner struck out the side after allowing a two-out single in the fourth. Ridge Ackerman gave up one hit and struck out two batters in working the final two innings.

NOTE: The game was delayed twice for a combined 50 minutes.
