Georgia Northwestern Announces New Board Of Directors

  • Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Three members of Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Board of Directors retired after nine years of service, and a new chair and co-chair were appointed, during the June meeting held on the Gordon County Campus.

Mary Sib Banks of Floyd County, Todd Murphy of Polk County, and Scott Tucker of Chattooga County stepped down after nine years of service; the maximum amount allowed by State Board policy.

All three members joined GNTC’s Board of Directors in 2006.

“GNTC is very appreciative of the service of outgoing board members,” said Pete McDonald, president of GNTC. “As business leaders in their respective industries these board members have given outstanding guidance to the college over the past nine years.”

Ms. Banks is the vice president of Community Relations at News Publishing Company, Murphy is the vice president of manufacturing at HNI Corporation, The HON Company’s parent company, and Mr Tucker is the president of United Community Bank.

GNTC also announced at the June board meeting that Jimmy Lester of Polk County will be the new chair and Brittany Pittman of Murray County will be the new co-chair, beginning in July.

Mr. Lester is the president of J.L. Lester and Son and Ms. Pittman is the Commissioner of Murray County.

GNTC’s Board of Directors serves both in a community advisory capacity and in a limited administrative capacity, performing certain oversight responsibilities as designated by State Board policy. The local Board is comprised of members from the business and industrial communities from nine counties in the GNTC service area (Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties). State Board Policy defines the role and responsibilities of the local Board members.

Board members are selected because of their experience, ability, and dedication to deal with issues that relate to the mission of occupational education and are without contractual, employment, or personal financial investment in the school.

GNTC’s Board of Directors includes:

  • Brent Box, M.D., Gordon County
  • Vann Brown, Whitfield County
  • Paul Ferguson, M.D., Floyd County
  • Penny Grigg, Walker County
  • James "Jay" Henry, Catoosa County
  • Andrew Kearton, Whitfield County
  • Jimmy Lester, Polk County
  • William "Terry" Nesbitt, Gordon County
  • Brittany Pittman, Murray County
  • Dr. Vickie Reed, Murray County
