Roman Martin Weaver, 29, Was Victim In Norris Lake Accident On Sunday

  • Monday, June 15, 2015

The identity of the man killed in Sunday’s fatal boating incident on Norris Lake has been released.

Investigators say that Roman Martin Weaver, 29, of Jonesville, Va., was killed after falling from an inner tube being towed behind a rented pontoon boat being operated by Blake Oliver, 28, also of Jonesville.

According to investigators, Mr.

Weaver fell from the inner tube around 1:30 p.m. and could not be located by Mr. Oliver or bystanders who rendered aid.

TWRA and rescue crews from Union Co. and Paulette Rescue Squads recovered Mr. Weaver’s body Sunday evening at about 8:05 p.m. in 60 feet of water by utilizing a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).

State boating laws require anyone being towed on an inner tube, skis, wakeboard, or similar device to wear a USCG approved and properly fitted life jacket and that there be an observer onboard to watch the person being towed.

The incident remains under investigation by the TWRA.
