A pair of second half goals scored by freshmen Addie Henry and Kate Dirske led Chattanooga Christian to a 2-1 win against visiting Soddy Daisy Tuesday in a girls high school soccer match.

The Trojans (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out by Kaylee Markum whose shot hit the far post and went in the goal.

Annie Reynolds had given CCS (1-0) an apparent 1-0 lead on a goal in the 26th minute, but an offsides on the Chargers erased the goal.

“I was pleased with our aggressive play on offense and we were able to adjust our defense in the second half to counter their team speed in the second half,” said CCS coach Cal Sneller.

“Overall it was a good way to start the season.”

Henry’s match-tying goal came on an assist from Olivia Hoffman, while Dirkse’s winning goal was a header in the box off a corner kick from Leah Hoffman.

“The match came down to a set play (corner kick) and they took advantage of the corner to score which turned out to be the difference tonight,” said Soddy Daisy coach Moises Drumond.

“I have seen improvement in our team this season with two shutout wins prior to tonight, but we played timid with the lead.”

Drumond pointed out to his players in post-match comments that CCS players were much more aggressive in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

“They came out flying to start the second half and we played timid.

Once we were down 2-1 then we were able to match their intensity.

”We have to play 80 minutes of aggressive soccer.”
