Chattanooga Firefighters Conduct Fundraiser For MDA This Week

  • Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Chattanooga firefighters will be out in the streets later this week, collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Fill the Boot fundraiser is Sept. 24–25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This effort will occur at numerous locations throughout the city all three days.

This is actually round two of this fundraiser for MDA. The first event occurred last May. Last year, the Chattanooga Fire Department ranked second only to Memphis in raising money for MDA in Tennessee. With a second Fill the Boot event this week, Fire Chief Chris Adams hopes Chattanooga can beat Memphis this year. “It’s a friendly competition, but the main thing is we’re doing this for a really good cause,” he said. “Muscular Dystrophy is a devastating disease and we will help any way we can.”

Firefighters across the country have a 60-year tradition of supporting MDA. Holly Carroll, MDA area director, said the funds raised through this event will support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art clinics and research efforts. The donations also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle disease can enjoy what they’ve called “the best week of the year.”
