Film Overviews:

Nov. 30 - The first film, Projections of America chronicles a team of idealistic film makers who hoped the power of movies could reshape the world following WWII.  Led by Academy Award winner Robert Riskin, the filmmakers created 26 short documentaries about American life which were shown around the world, but not to American audiences at the time. John Lithgow narrates this story of war, idealism, and the power of the cinema. This film is sponsored by The Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Museum Heritage Center.  On the same evening Autobiography of a Jeep will screen as an added feature and will be followed by a discussion of how this film was made by Amy Linton, the film’s editor. She will also entertain questions from the audience.

Dec. 7 - Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict highlights the life of Peggy Guggenheim who was a colorful character, heiress to her family fortune, and central figure in the modern art movement as a collector of art and friendships with important artists. This film is sponsored by Austin Center and Acuity Merchant Services.

Dec. 14 - Morgenthau is the epic story of three generations of an American family. The film chronicles the lives of Henry Morgenthau (senior) United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Henry Morgenthau (Junior) United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Robert M. Morgenthau, District Attorney of New York County for over 30 years. This film is sponsored by Weill & Long PLLC.

Sanford Winer, film series chair, oversees the selections of films for both the Jewish Documentary Series and the Chattanooga Films series, which screens primary current feature films along with a committee of dedicated volunteers.
