Hoping For A Smooth Transition In Walker County

  • Thursday, November 17, 2016

Just a few things to reflect on as Walker County begins change and transition into a new commissioner and administration.

When the voting stopped, Shannon Whitfield - 17,361 votes - 72.8 percent, Perry Lamb - 3,503 votes - 14.7 percent for a total of  20,864 votes - 87 1/2 percent voted for a change of leadership in Walker County.  Imagine getting nearly 90 percent of a county to agree on anything.

Now I'm encouraged with comments from Commissioner Heiskell in the Chattanooga.com on Tuesday that she has instructed her staff to be as helpful as possible in answering questions, providing information and recommendations to Commissioner-Elect Shannon Whitfield.   She goes on to say, "I will full cooperate, advise and provide information to Shannon Whitfield as he prepares to take office in January."

It's great to hear that Commissioner Heiskell said that between now and January, she would be including Commissioner-Elect Whitfield on decisions being made on behalf of Walker County.

She is quoted in her letter to him, "I look forward to a smooth transition between our administration and will be pleased to work with you for anything you think I might be able to offer to help you with the details of the office, pending issues, and any recommendations I might be able to offer."

It's encouraging to hear Ms. Heiskell say these words to 90 percent of Walker County who voted for change. Of course to have it any other way than what she is promising to Mr. Whitfield would be a disgrace and dishonor the 40 years of public service to the citizens of Walker County.
