Wake Up America

  • Thursday, December 22, 2016

During the presidential election you heard "make America great again".  I feel that to do that the country must return to what made it great. But in today's liberal environment that will not be easily done.

I believe America began her road to greatness long before 1776. That journey began when the first English settlers, the Puritans decided to call this home then drafted and signed the first governing document in this land, the Mayflower Compact. The document leaves no questions as to why they are here. First and foremost to worship and glorify God and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At this time, I believe God placed a hedge around this country, how else can you explain 13 colonies defeating the greatest empire on earth.

There was more than one time General Washington and his army narrowly escaped certain defeat such as at the battle of Brooklyn. History books credit Mother Nature and extreme changes in weather that allowed for their miraculous escape, but there is one much greater that controls any Mother Nature and that is Father God. In the 18th and 19th century there were periods of National Revival recorded as the Great Awakenings.  Another is desperately needed now.

French Historian Alexis de Tocqueville came to America in search of the source of her greatness. In his book "Democracy in America" in 1835 he list all the places he searched but could not find it. Not until he went into the churches and heard the pulpits "aflame with righteousness" did he understand the secret of her genius and strength. Thus his famous quote "America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great". That is ringing true as globally America seems to be losing respect.

During the 20th century God continued to bless America as evidenced by WWII. After a devastating unprovoked attack by Japan a nation of people pulled together to lead the allies to defeat Hitler and his war machine. This despite the fact Germany had superior weapons and their soldiers were driven by a pharmaceutical, a new compound to western scientist at the time. It is now known as the devastating street drug "crystal meth". Then on to defeat Japan.

In the 1950's the two most important words were added to the Pledge of Allegiance, "under God". But later, America legalized and industrialized the killing of the unborn, removed prayer from schools and now even allows the barbaric partial birth abortion.

In the 21st century people stampeded churches after 9-11 searching for a sense of security but quite a few soon returned to their old routine. Then, the Supreme Court overruled the American public when the people voted to protect and define marriage as a union between one man and one women; later the court approved same sex unions. Yet we have the gall to sing "God Bless America". But how can he bless such a rebellious nation?
