Louis J. Voskuil, a professor emeritus of history at Covenant College, died on December 24, 2016, at Alexian Village of Tennessee. The cause was complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

Dr. Voskuil was born in Cedar Grove, Wi., to Louis A. Voskuil and Jennie Voskuil. He received his B.A. from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois. He taught European history at Covenant College for 29 years. He was an active member of St. Elmo Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.

Dr. Voskuil is survived by his wife, Audrey Jean Harmelink Voskuil, by his sister, Nelda A. Voskuil, and by four children: Timothy Lou Voskuil, Lynn Marie Voskuil (married to James Kastely), Susan Jean Voskuil, and Lisa Voskuil Baker (married to Michael Baker).

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elinore M. Gesch and Harriet J. Voskuil and his brother-in-law Wilfred Gesch.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant College in the chapel at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28. The family will receive mourners before the service, beginning at 1 p.m., and also following the service.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at Alexian Village and to Hospice of Chattanooga for providing such excellent care and counsel in Dr. Voskuil’s final weeks. Donations in Dr. Voskuil’s name may be made to St. Elmo Presbyterian Church or to the Student Scholarship Fund at Covenant College.
