Montgomery, Ala. — Katie Dalton of Dalton State has been selected as the SSAC Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The sophomore from Vidalia, Ga., was chosen for her performance during the week of March 14-20.

“This is another great week for Katie,” said DS Coach Jim McGrew. “I’m so proud of Katie and the consistency she has shown this year. Her worst finish has been fourth and that was in a (NCAA) division one tournament that she had a shot to win.”

McGrew said Dalton is a fighter. “”She has the tenacity that you want in a player,” he said. “No matter what happens she will continue to battle and find a way to score. I/m just glad she is a Roadrunner.”

Dalton was the runner-up at the Keiser (Fla.) Invitational, carding a nine-over par 225 (77-75-73) over the 54-hole event.

The invitational was contested at the par-72, 6,049-yard Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla., on March 13 and 14.

Dalton and individual medalist Elsa Westin of Keiser were the only golfers to shoot in the 70s during each round of the event—with Westin tallying a seven-over par 223 (75-74-74) to finish two strokes ahead of Dalton.

The No. 4-ranked Roadrunners, who shot 85-over par 949 as a team, finished as the runner-up—21 strokes behind No. 1-ranked Keiser. The Seahawks and Roadrunners bested the rest of the eight-team field by 41-or-more strokes.

In a field comprised of predominantly NCAA Division I golfers at the Low Country Intercollegiate, Dalton tied for fourth with Cristina Perez of NCAA Division I Chattanooga (Tenn.). Dalton shot six-over par 150 (75-75) over the 36-hole event.

The intercollegiate event was held at the par-72, 5,922-yard Moss Creek Golf Club South Course in Hilton Head, S.C., on March 19 and 20.

Dalton placed fourth behind a trio of NCAA Divison I golfers Sasha Banks of Brown (R.I.), Emily McLennan of Chattanooga and Yudika Rodriguez of Bethune-Cookman (Fla.).

Dalton State carded a 48-over par 624 as a team to place seventh in the 18-team field. The Roadrunners were bested by NCAA Division I programs Bethune-Cookman, Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb (N.C.), Appalachian State (N.C.), William & Mary (Va.) and Brown.

Dalton owns a 75.95 scoring average through 19 rounds on the season. Her average ranks fourth nationally.

With this week's nod, Dalton becomes the first repeat winner of the SSAC Women's Golfer of the Week award during the 2016 campaign.
