Freedom To Discriminate

  • Saturday, April 30, 2016

I don't need a dictionary to know Rox Exum is a white male with privilege. His chosen words and tone are inexcusable, primarily because he can never know what it feels like to be a victim of discrimination. We live in a world that is right-hand dominant, yet we don't say that lefties chose to be that way because their selfishness drives their desire to be different.

You could try to change them, or legislate them away, yet these characteristics, like that of sexual orientation and gender are God given freedoms of identity.

How ironic it was that Exum drew his editorial to close with the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Ratified at the end of the Civil War, its context so highly appropriate in the case for equal rights afforded to former slaves and their descendants, and more recently as the basis for affording equal protection rights of gays and lesbians to marry.
