Re-Elect Donna Horn - And Response

  • Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Re-elect Donna Horn, the only choice for District 7 School Board representative.

Mrs. Horn is a self starter and will always do what is best for our students in Hamilton County.  As a former teacher, Donna has abundant classroom experience and knows first hand what is needed to make positive changes.

Donna Horn has strong, sustained leadership abilities, which are focused on what is best for students. As a Hamilton County School Board representative, Mrs. Horn has worked with parents to change policy to allow the system to pay a teacher to work an extended day teaching foreign language to elementary students. She spearheaded the effort to bring a national expert to our community to provide answers to questions about bullying in schools (thanks to a local private school's generosity). She works with businesses and civic organizations seeking teaching and learning resources.

Why wouldn't the decision to re-elect Donna Horn, District 7, be an obvious choice for voters.

Mr. Ralph Fernandez’s letter states his opinion of Ms. Donna Horn accomplishments.  These examples alone, while commendable, do not present strong leadership and managerial qualities needed for the elected school board representative of District 7.

In light of the division on the school board revealed by the tragic Ooltewah matter and the resulting superintendent's resignation, where was Ms. Horn's leadership in unifying the board?  That would be the test of real leadership.

Leadership is more than talk, it is action when the scope of her official duties of office calls for it.  Leadership is not putting your personal ambition first, it's putting others first.  Where has Ms. Horn shown true leadership as District 7 representative?  Leading from the front?  Not so.
