TWRA To Hold Law Enforcement Training Session About Boating Under The Influence Detection And Apprehension

  • Thursday, May 12, 2016

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will hold a law enforcement training session featuring Boating Under the Influence detection and apprehension.

The TWRA holds the annual training prior to the start of boating season to sharpen officer’s skills in detecting and apprehending BUI offenders on the state’s waterways.

The training will consist of a morning classroom session, which reviews enforcement procedures and an overview of field sobriety tasks.  The afternoon training involves conducting of a “wet lab,” in which volunteer subjects will consume alcohol in a controlled environment and be subjected to field sobriety tasks. Officers will then make an arrest/no arrest decision. The training will conclude with a revelation of the subjects’ Blood Alcohol Content level.

The training will be held on Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Region 4 Office at 3030 Wildlife Way, Morristown, Tn. 37814.

Both days will feature identical training sessions. Officers have been divided into two groups because the venue cannot accommodate all officers at one time.
