Southern Graduation To Include Chattanooga Business Icons And Genocide Survivor

  • Friday, May 6, 2016

Southern Adventist University’s graduation program will take place Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Chattanooga Convention Center. Gordon Bietz, Southern’s president who is retiring in May after 19 years in that position, will provide Commencement address.

Chattanooga business icons Joe Decosimo and Byron DeFoor will each receive an honorary Doctor of Law degree during the ceremony.

Ananias Sentozi, a survivor of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, is one of the higher-level administrators for World Vision in that country. He has traveled to the U.S. to participate in the graduation ceremony for his master’s degree from Southern’s Global Community Development program.

The 456 students receiving diplomas on Sunday represents the single largest graduating class to date for Southern.
