Mocs Runners Third At PowerAde Invitational

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s and women’s cross country teams each took third Friday evening at the 25th annual PowerAde Invitational at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.
 
Junior Maddison Melchionna (Afton, Tenn.) was the top Chattanooga finisher for the women placing eighth with a time of 11:39.58 in the two-milie race. Senior Paul Stuart placed seventh on the men’s side, covering the course in a time of 15:39.06.
 
Middle Tennessee took first in the women’s rave grabbing the top five spots for a perfect score of 15.
Alabama was second with 50 points followed by the Mocs with 69. Southern Conference foes Samford and Mercer finished behind Chattanooga with 127 and 136 points respectively.
 
Austin Peay tallied 171 points followed by Alabama A&M with 205 to round out the scoring. In the non-Division I race, Sewanee edged out Covenant College by a score of 25-33.
 
Senior Jessica York (Normandy, Tenn.) was the second Chattanooga runner across the line, taking 12th in a time of 11:51.29 followed by junior Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.) two spots behind at 12:01.80. Junior Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) was 17th overall with a time of 12:08.81 with freshman Haley Morris 18th in a time of 12:09.28.
 
MTSU’s Agnes Abu won the event in a time of 11:11.17.
 
In the men’s race, freshman Nathan Watson (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was the second UTC runner to finish with a time of 15:49.60 with junior Brennan Huber (Manchester, Tenn.0 one spot back in 12th clocking at 15:51.16.
 
Sophomore Mark Britt (Lebanon, Tenn.) placed 17th overall with a time of 15:57.84 and sophomore John Payne (Portland, Tenn.) was the final scoring runner of the meet with a time of 16:15.41, placing 25th.
 
The Blue Raiders placed four runners in the Top Five to win with 19 points followed by Alabama’s 42 for second. The Mocs had 66 points in the race with Austin Peay fourth with 115 points. SoCon opponents Samford and Mercer rounded out the scoring with 120 and 172 points respectively. Sewanee scored 15 points in the non-Division I race for first and Covenant had 50 points.
 
Chattanooga will return to action on October 1 at the Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational.
