Robert Hannah, 94, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017.

Mr. Hannah honorably served his country in the United States Army for three years during WWII. While on furlough from Fort Rucker, Al. in 1943, Mr. Hannah married the love of his life, Mary “Deanie” Palmer. 

Mr. Hannah was owner of Robert Hannah Grocery on Ocoee Street. Mr. Hannah showed kindness and compassion to many customers allowing them to purchase groceries on credit during difficult times. 

After retiring as a business owner, Mr. Hannah worked part-time with both Watson’s Grocery and Cooke’s Food Store. He was a former member of South Cleveland United Methodist Church for more than 50 years where he served as Treasurer and usher. Mr. Hannah was a founding member of the Cleveland Community Chapel. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, class of 1941.

Mr. Hannah was happily married for 64 years to Mary “Deanie” Hannah. He was preceded in death by Deanie, W.F. and Fannie Gamble Hannah; stepmother Loretta Hannah; brothers and sisters, Ertsel Hannah, Fred Hannah Jr., grandson Seth Hannah and great-grandson Justin Fowler.

Mr. Hannah is survived by daughter, Priscilla Conley and husband Herbert of Cleveland; Rodney Hannah and wife Mary Ann of Canton, Georgia; sisters Sarah Harris and Retta Ownby and her husband Joe; grandchildren; Hanna Alisa Fowler and husband Barry, Amy Conley-Moore, Tye Hannah and his wife Kelly, Adam Hannah and wife Amanda; great grandchildren, Jacob Fowler, Caleb Fowler, Hannah Grace Moore, Evan Moore, Isabel Moore, Kaeden Hannah, Adalynne Mae Hannah; great-great granddaughter Skylar Meisler; special friends Mike Miller and Eddie Rogers; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, at Cleveland Cornerstone Church with Pastor Barry Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Tye Hannah, Adam Hannah, Jacob Fowler, Caleb Fowler, Mike Miller and Eddie Rogers serving as pallbearers. Full military honors conclude the services.
