Johnson, George David (Whitwell)

George David Johnson, 76, of Whitwell, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017.  Mr. Johnson was a dedicated lifelong charter member of Crossroads Baptist Church.  He retired from CSX Railroad after 32 years.  Mr. Johnson was one of the original founders of Crossroads Recreational Park, where he served the community until retiring as park manager.  He truly loved baseball as a player and a fan.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Hearl and Eula Rose Johnson; sisters, Mary Ruth Woody, Vera Mae Bryson; brother, Charles Adams. 

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 50 years Sara Rankin Johnson; two children, David (Marla) Johnson and Angie (Bryan) Lofty, all of Whitwell; four grandchildren, Ethan Johnson, Kenneth Paul Hamrick, Caleb Lofty and Maddie Lofty. 

Family will receive friends Saturday 2-9 p.m., Nov. 4. 

Funeral services will be Sunday 2 p.m. CST Nov. 5 at the Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hedrick and Rev. David Grisham officiating. 

Interment at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.
