UTC Women's Tennis Team Hosts Jacksonville STate, MTSU

  • Thursday, February 23, 2017
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team has two matches on the slate for the upcoming weekend.  The Mocs travel to Jacksonville State on Saturday and host MTSU on Sunday as they head to outdoor action for the first time this spring.

Chattanooga has won four of its last five outings and is 7-3 in the spring.  Junior Samantha Caswell leads the way with a 6-3 mark at No. 1 singles.  She is also 4-3 at No. 1 doubles with senior Rachele Gazzola.

UTC visits the Gamecocks on Saturday, Feb.
25 at Noon (E.S.T.) at the JSU Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Ala.  Jacksonville State is trying to snap a four-match slide and owns a 3-5 record overall.

"We had a chance to see JSU play in our invite this fall," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper.  "They are a young but talented team. We know they are much-improved since the fall season and we need to be prepared."

UTC has a 19-4 all-time record against the Gamecocks, including five consecutive wins in the series.  These two teams have met in seven of the last eight years in non-conference action.

Chattanooga's first outdoor home match is Sunday, Feb. 26, against MTSU at the Baylor School courts.  First serve is 1:00 p.m. and a link for live scoring is available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.  MTSU has lost three in a row and is 4-7 in the spring.

"Our team has a lot of momentum so far and we look forward to our match against MTSU," added Camper.  "The women feel that a win against a successful team like MTSU is the next step for our program.

"However, it will not be easy.  They are very deep and very experienced."

The Mocs are 16-19 all-time against the Blue Raiders.  MTSU has won each of the last two meetings, including a 6-1 victory last season in Murfreesboro.
