Dalton State Women's Golf First At SSAC Championships

 The #5-ranked Dalton State Women's Golf team continued to perform well in the second round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships being held at the Par-72, 5,736-yard Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery, AL. The Roadrunners (+30, 606) sit in 1st place ahead of William Carey (+33, 609) by a narrow three strokes. William Carey sits ahead of 3rd place Faulkner (+41, 617) by eight strokes.

The Roadrunners continued to march towards a title as they carded a team total (+17, 305). Tia Teiniketo led the Roadrunners with a second round card of (+3, 75) towards a tournament total of (+1, 145) and currently sits in a tie for 1st place. Teiniketo shot three bogeys on 4, 5, and 8 to go out in (+3, 39). She would find her momentum on the back, and shot par on 10-15 before sinking in a birdie on the 16th to come in with an (E, 36).

Caroline Griffin found her stride in the second round to card a (+3, 75) towards a tournament total of (+13, 157) and moves up eleven spots to currently sit tied for 11th. Griffin shot two birdies on 5 and 7 to balance out two bogeys, going out in (E, 36). On the back she opened with a bogey on 10 and followed with another on 13 before carding a birdie on 15. Griffin would shoot double-bogey-par to come back in with a (+3, 39) on the back 9.

Isabel Rijos carded a solid round of (+4, 76) towards a tournament total (+13, 157) and moves up eight spots to currently sit tied for 11th. Rijos opened with a bogey, and sank a birdie on the 5 to go out in (+1, 37) in the front. She continued to move through the back, carding a birdie on the 11 before finishing with a double-bogey-bogey on 17 and 18 for a (+3, 39) on the back.

Katie Dalton fired (+7, 79) in the second round towards a tournament total (+8, 152) and drops two spots to currently sit tied for 4th place. Dalton opened with a bogey, and followed with a birdie on the 3rd. A double-bogey on the 6 would see her go out with a (+4, 40) on the front. The back did not give Dalton much trouble as she shot three bogeys on 11, 12, and 16 to finish the back 9 at (+3, 39).

Haejin Choe rounded out scoring for the Roadrunner with a second round (+7, 79) towards a tournament total (+12, 156) and drops a single spot to currently sit tied for 8th. Choe opened with a birdie to set a strong pace on the front. She followed with bogeys on  2, 6, and 7 to go out at (+2, 38). Choe had a rough start on the back with a double-bogey, but found her rhythm to shoot par on 14-17 and come in at (+5, 41).

"It was another solid day for us," said DS women's coach Jim McGrew. "We had all five players shoot in the 70's and that is always a good day. We let some shots get away from us at the end of the round and obviously we will need to do a better job tomorrow of finishing the round." He concluded by saying, "This is the position you want to be in and have prepared for all season. We are excited and look forward to the challenges that tomorrow will bring."

The Dalton State Women's Golf team will continue their march for a conference title tomorrow in the final round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships at Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery, AL
