James Smith
James Curtis “Wig” Smith, 83, of Cooper Heights, Georgia, went home to be with The Lord on Sunday morning, May 21, 2017.
He was born in Walker County, to the late Mack C. Smith, Sr. and Vista Lewis Smith. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He was a former employee of Tennessee Hotel and Supply, Restaurant Enterprises and retired from Walker County Water Authority after 15 years of service. He enjoyed mowing the grass with his riding lawn mower and watching Westerns. He was a member of Cooper Heights Church of God and was the former choir director.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Mona Hegwood, Claudette Stephens, Doris Walters, brothers: Mack C. Smith Jr., Harold, Charles, Austin, Athel, Bobby and Donald Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Jannie Lovella Clark Smith of Cooper Heights, GA, daughter: Janice Ann (Michael) Hanan of Chattanooga, son: Curtis Wayne (Letty) Smith of Lookout Mountain, grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca, Logan, several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for their caregiving to Wig, especially Jeff, Kim, Angie and Bryan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday an hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, in the chapel with Pastor Kenneth Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park – Noble, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Cooper Heights Church of God at 12598 Highway 193, Chickamauga, GA 30707 and/or Hospice of Chattanooga at 2626 Walker Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
