The Chief John Ross Chapter, NSDAR, has adopted a unit within the 82nd Airborne Division, currently stationed in Afghanistan, with a unique project.  CJR Regent Jessica M. Dumitru encourages public participation in this project.

Project Schuyler was initiated based on a request from unit officers and their request appealed to the membership of the Chief John Ross Chapter.

Project Schuyler will send United States flags to the unit. On the last day of deployment for each soldier, a U.S. flag will be flown over the post from sun-up to sun-down and then presented to the departing soldier as a reminder of his service to his nation and its citizens.

Chief John Ross Chapter has committed to sending a monthly minimum of one 3’ x 5’ synthetic flag with sown stars to the unit.

Other civic organizations and individuals may join in assisting Project Schuyler by contributing flags. The unit specifically requested synthetic flags with sown stars due the fierceness of the desert winds.

For more information, email localhistorycounts@gmail.com .  Flag donations may be left at either Art Creations location, 201 Frazier Ave. or 7351 Commons Blvd., off Gunbarrel Road.
