Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 East and West drainage improvement from MM 173 to 175:   The drainage improvement project at Exit 174 is underway. There will be lane closures along US-41 in the vicinity of the interchange. Ramps will remain open but could be subject to width and lane restrictions.  Estimated project completion date is November. [Talley Construction Company/Micka/CNS324]  

US-27 (I-124) widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:   Work on this project continues with numerous activities occurring in the median of US-27.

Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the left traffic lane in both the northbound and southbound directions. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. Beginning on Thursday night  and Friday night, then again on Monday night through Wednesday night, temporary lane closure may be required for North and Southbound US27 from I24 to the Olgiati Bridge for modification of the existing barrier rail. These lane closures, if necessary, will be short duration between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Additionally, temporary right lane closures will be occurring northbound and southbound on the Olgiati Bridge. These closures are currently scheduled for Monday morning through Wednesday evening. Two lanes will remain open at all times for each direction.  Estimated project completion date is January 2020. [Dement Construction Company, LLC/Micka/CNP230]  

US-127 (SR-8) slope repair of Signal Mountain Boulevard at log mile 16.05:   During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed while performing slope stabilization operations. Temporary traffic signals are in place on either end of the project to control traffic. Additionally the speed limit has been lowered to 20 MPH in the construction zone. Additional flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is December. [GSI/Maintenance/MAINT]  

TDOT Contractor on I-24 both directions from MM 176.4 to MM 177.2:   Nighttime Closure - A contractor from Arcadis will be performing an inspection on the I24 bridges over Lookout Creek at LM 176.4 and over Chattanooga Creek at LM 177.2 Thursday from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. The right shoulder and through lane will be closed.  

TDOT Maintenance on I-124 northbound from MM 0.2 to MM 0.2:   TDOT Bridge Inspection will be performing its 2-year Inspection on the I-24 Bridge over US-27 intersection on Monday. There will be a shoulder closure US-27, MM 0.2, at the I-24 split to inspect the single bearing that carries I-24 eastbound. Bridge inspection will close the shoulder from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 

TDOT Maintenance on I-24 both directions from MM 182.4 to MM 182.4:   TDOT Bridge Inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on South Crest road over I-24 LM 182.4 on Tuesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. No lanes on I-24 will be affected but on Crest Road the west bound lane and shoulder will be affected.  

Utility Work on SR-2 (Broad Street) southbound from LM 6.2 to LM 6.23:   Shoulder work at intersection w/w 33rd Street with signage and flaggers as needed. 3210 Broad - W 32nd Street and Watson Court from Thursday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 

Utility Work on SR-27 (Market Street) both directions from LM 4.43 to LM 4.43:   Intersection of Market Street and King Street /W. 13th Street. One lane to remain open to NB and SB traffic for duration of project. Signage and flaggers as needed. Thursday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. 

Utility Work on SR-319 (Hixson Pike) southbound from LM 5.41 to LM 5.51:   To install two spans overhead along existing EPB pole line along SR 319. Signage for a temporary single lane closure for aerial utility work. Wednesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.   

SR-153 resurfacing from I-75 (LM 0.00) to Shallowford Road (LM 2.60), including bridge deck repair:   This project will involve nightly lane closures to support the project activities. This will involve both NB and SB lane closures on SR-153 beginning on Monday. Estimated project completion date is November. [Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc./Micka/CNS251]  

Cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on US-11 (US-64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on US-127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on US-41 (US-76, SR-8):   Bachman Tubes will be cleaned on Thursday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. The Bachman Tube cleaning will have a signed detour to direct traffic Estimated project completion date is June 2019. [Diamond Specialized, Inc./Micka/CNS206] 

SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:   During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Hamlet Drive. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is October.

US-11/64 SR-2 (Brainerd Road/Lee Highway) resurfacing from east of Moore Road (LM 13.85) to east of Airport Road (LM 15.84):   The contractor will temporarily not be working during this report period. Estimated project completion date is November. [Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc./Pruett/CNS228]

Person Shot In Road Rage Incident On Bailey Avenue; Shooter Flees

A person was shot after a road rage incident on Bailey Avenue on Thursday afternoon. Police said the shooter fled. Police responded to 1050 Bailey Ave. at 3:16 p.m. The person was not seriously injured. Police blocked off Bailey Avenue from National Avenue to the overpass as the incident was being investigated.
