The 2016 Musical Revue
Lee University Opera Theatre will present its fall Musical Revue, comprising various scenes from a variety of musicals, on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall.
The first half of the program will celebrate American composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday with his complete musical composition “Trouble in Tahiti.” First performed in 1952, “Trouble in Tahiti” is a one-act opera centered on the strained relationship of a married couple.
The second half of the program will feature pieces from various musicals, including “A Chorus Line,” “Cinderella,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Little Women.”
Undergraduate and graduate students, under the artistic direction of Associate Professor of Voice James Frost, comprise Opera Theatre. Dr. ChoEun Lee, assistant professor of collaborative piano, has served as a vocal coach and will play piano alongside Rachel Appleton during the program.
Opera Theatre began in the spring of 1998 as a workshop and has grown into a production organization performing a musical revue in the fall semester, a fully-staged opera from both standard and less traditional repertoire in February, and an opera scenes program in the spring semester.
The performance is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
