Women from the Harrison Bay Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints providing a Thanksgiving meal to the residents of Cleveland Summit Apartments
Women from the Harrison Bay Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provided a Thanksgiving meal to the residents of Cleveland Summit Apartments. Every November, the Harrison Bay Relief Society, which is the women’s ministry for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, participates in a service activity.
This year, they received word that the 120 residents of Cleveland Summit Apartments, a Housing and Urban Development facility that provides a room for those who would otherwise be homeless, would not have any type of holiday meal provided for them. The Harrison Bay Relief Society stepped in and provided a full Thanksgiving meal. The women cooked all of the food in their homes and then transported it from the Ooltewah area up to the residents in Cleveland. Once there, they served them dinner and sang a few songs to try to provide them with a little love and holiday cheer.
They also put together humanitarian kits that included razors, dish soap, toiletries, hand soap, deodorant, laundry detergent, and cleanser. These kits were provided to all 120 residents. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provided most of the supplies for the humanitarian kits. Colgate donated toothbrushes and toothpaste; and Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, and Springhill Suites Hotels donated shampoo and conditioner. Both the residents and the sisters of the Church felt it was a great way to kick off the holiday season in celebration of Christ “who went about doing good” (Acts 10:38).
