Lee University’s School of Music will present its 29th annual “A Classic Christmas" Dec. 2
Lee University’s School of Music will present its 29th annual “A Classic Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. in the Conn Center.
“We’re so excited to share an evening of festive music to kick off the advent season,” said Dr. Joshua Cheney, assistant professor of music and conductor of the program. “We would be most honored for all to join us as we celebrate the birth of our Risen Savior!”
This year’s “A Classic Christmas” will include a variety of sacred and secular music from favorite American composers, ranging from classical works by Dan Forrest to African-American spirituals by Moses Hogan. The program will also include music from Barlow Bradford.
The concert will feature an array of Lee ensembles including Choral Union, directed by Cheney; Chorale, directed by Dr. William Green; Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Bernhardt; and Handbell Choir, conducted by Laud Vaught.
The award-winning Chattanooga Girls Choir, directed by Joshua Golden, will perform as special guests for the evening. The Chattanooga Girls Choir is composed of nearly 150 girls from grades 1-12, representing approximately 60 public and private schools in the Greater Chattanooga area.
The choir received the 1991 Treble Choir Award at the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria; First Place awards at the 1993 and 1999 International Children’s Choir Festival in Bournemouth, England; one of two awards presented at the 1994 Princeton University Invitational Choir Festival; and a silver medal at the 2012 World Choir Games.
Tickets are free, but required due to limited seating. They are available at the Dixon Center box office, which will be open Monday through Friday, 3-6 p.m. They can also be reserved by calling 614-8343 or online at https://www.showclix.com/event/classic-christmas-2018.
