Ashley Lawson, BSN, registered nurse at CHI Memorial, has received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A recent patient’s family member wrote a letter in appreciation of the care Ms. Lawson gave to both the patient and the family members. “Her genuine care, utmost compassion, plethora of knowledge and general demeanor helped us through some of the most difficult times we faced there. [Her] humble confidence that put us all at ease, knowing that someone who knew her stuff was caring for our loved one like she was her own. There is not a price you can put on that kind of genuine compassion and caring. Ashley wholeheartedly made us feel like my mother-in-law was not just another patient, but the most special one she ever had. I didn’t know how I could ever express what an absolute priceless gem you have in Ashley. I decided that the best way was to just tell you as much in detail as I could so maybe you could see and feel how special this nurse is.”
Ms. Lawson works in the cardiac care unit at CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga. She has worked at CHI Memorial since June 2013.
"CHI Memorial is pleased to partner with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the extraordinary difference nurses make in the lives of patients and co-workers. Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care," officials said.
At a presentation attended by the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, leaders and visitors, the honoree receives a certificate commending which reads, "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The honoree is also given a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa, a daisy bouquet and a copy of her/his nomination letter. The honoree's nursing unit receives a cinnamon doughnut party because it takes a team for a nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts donates the treats for this cause.
