Johnny Johnston, 70, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2018. 

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a sergeant in the 3rd Recon A Battalion in Vietnam from 1966-69. He graduated from Kirkman Technical High School class of 1966.
He retired from the United States Postal Service after 39 years. Johnny worked on the letter sorting machines and helped load trucks as an expediter.  

Johnny was an active member of the Senior Adults at Woodland Park Baptist where he was a member for many years. He enjoyed taking trips with them to Shocco Springs, Pigeon Forge, Billy Graham’s Cove, and many other local trips. He enjoyed their game nights playing Rook with his buddies and also the youth. He was dedicated to God and his family. Johnny enjoyed fishing with his son and grandson. He enjoyed watching the Braves and always enjoyed the rivalry between Tennessee and Alabama football with his son. Johnny will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Hugh and Mabel Rollins Johnston; and a brother, Jimmy Johnston. 

Left behind to cherish Johnny’s memory are his wife of 44 years, Rachel; daughter, Jennifer Johnston, Chattanooga; son, Michael (Deana) Johnston, Harrison; brother, Kenneth Johnston (Irby Rowland); sister, Patsy Argenbright, both of Chattanooga, Patsy (Dewey) Wallace, Big Rock, Tn., and grandchildren, Tyler and Ashley Johnston. 

A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Tuesday March 27, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Daugherty officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until service time. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
