Timothy S. Daniels, 58 died suddenly due to cardiac arrest at his home on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

He is survived by his beloved wife Debby of 37 years; his most precious gift of all, his daughter Taylor Raye; parents, Larry and Anneliese Daniels; sister, Sonia (Dave) Scheetz; mother-in-law, Alice (Gerry, deceased) Stanko; many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Tim, born on Oct. 3, 1959, was raised in Massillon, Ohio. He played football for Washington High School in Massillon and was a high school All-American. He went on to play football at The University of Tennessee under John Majors where he lettered in 1979. After a courageous battle with cancer, he graduated from The University of Tennessee and went on to become a distinguished high school football coach. He started his coaching career as an assistant at Doyle HS in Knoxville. From there, he returned to his alma mater in Massillon as an assistant coach. In 1994 he returned to Tennessee to become the head coach of the Loudon Redskins. In 2002, he moved on to the Chattanooga area as the head coach of the Red Bank Lions. In 2012, Tim decided to retire as the Lions head football coach. Because of his love of coaching young men, Tim accepted an assistant football coaching position at Baylor School, while continuing his teaching duties at Red Bank.

Tim loved his family dearly. This was apparent to anyone who knew him. Coach D, as he was known to most, had a great passion for coaching and encouraging young men and women to become leaders and adults of character. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, respect and love to all who knew him. To quote a friend, “He had a laugh that could fill up a room. He had a personality that was even bigger than his 6’ foot 8” frame. He had an intensity that I haven’t seen anyone match in my 20 years of coaching. He wanted your best, and I believe he got it from you.”

The family is so grateful to the numerous friends and health care specialists who have provided unbelievable support during this difficult time. Tim will be greatly missed by not only his family but many extended family friends, colleagues, current and former players and students.

A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the Baylor School Chapel, 171 Baylor School Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37405. A brief visitation will follow in the Baylor School Dining Hall.
