Chattanooga Police Department K9 Teams Take Top Honors At USPCA Regional Spring Trials

  • Friday, May 18, 2018

The Chattanooga Police Department took top honors at the 2018 United States Police Canine Association Spring Trials in Rome, Ga. Two CPD K9 teams won awards for Top Dog in two different areas, Top Dog in several individual events, and finished with first, second and third place overall.

A K9 team from Whitfield County won Top Dog Overall honors. However, since that team has trained with the CPD K9 Unit under the direction of CPD Head Trainer Barry Vrandenburg and Assistant Trainer Lucas Timmons for the past two years the Whitfield County's team finish was counted under CPD's overall finishes. According to USPCA, this is the first time one agency has taken the top three spots overall within Region 22 which includes law enforcement agencies from Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Officer Lucas Timmons and K9 Burt won the honor as Top Narcotics Detection Team. Officer Barry Vrandenburg and K9 Camie earned the honor as Top Explosive Odor Team. Both teams have been invited to represent Region 22 at the USPCA Nationals in Galloway, N.J. this coming week.
