No. 21 Lee Women Win 1-0 Over Shorter

  • Sunday, September 16, 2018
The No. 21 Lee women's soccer team opened up Gulf South Conference play with a 1-0 road victory at Shorter University on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Lauren Peters delivered the lone goal in the 54th minute to give the Lady Flames their second straight win. Freshman Julia Kaset and senior Mia Hollingsworth provided the assist.

Hollingsworth, coming off GSC Player of the Week honors a week ago, can make a strong case to win it again this week after tallying two goals and three assists in two Lee victories.

Despite only scoring one goal the Lady Flames dominated the stat sheet outshooting the Hawks, 28-4 while holding a commanding 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Taylor Green kept Shorter off the board with her first shutout of the season.
The junior keeper was credited with two saves.

"It's a tough field to play on and we hit the wood work five or six times today but we got the result we were looking for and at the end of the day that's all that matters," said head coach Chris Hennessey. "We didn't concede a goal and I liked our execution for the most part. We have some areas we need to improve on in training this week because we know next weekend is going to be a challenge."

Shorter goalkeeper, Sydney Durham kept the match close as she made 12 saves while allowing the one goal.

The win moves the Lady Flames to 4-1-1 on the year and 1-0 in the GSC while the Hawks fall to 1-5 and 0-1 in league play.

Lee will be back in action Friday night from the Lee Soccer Field as they host Auburn Montgomery at 7 p.m. in the annual Kickin It For Kids with Cancer match. The event goes to support the Austin Hatcher Foundation, which helps families affected by pediatric cancer.
