The Chattery Starting A Book Club On Self-Improvement

  • Monday, January 7, 2019

Nonprofit learning collective, The Chattery, will start a book club focusing on self-improvement, with The Chattery teacher, Liz Norell, leading the discussions each month.

The Chattery Book Club will meet the second Tuesday of every month starting in February. The books include a variety of authors on subjects including self-compassion, relationships with money, food and body image and more.

“For 2019, we asked ourselves, how could we add something fun in addition to our usual class listing?” says Shawanda Mason-Moore, co-founder of The Chattery. “In our classes, no matter the subject, the goal is for everyone to have the tools to become the best version of themselves, so we’re excited to finally launch a book club that’s centered around self-improvement.”

Books are as follows:

February - The Crossroads of Should and Must, by Ella Luna (focusing on ‘finding your musts’)

March - The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown (focusing on self-compassion)
April - Discovering Your Personality Type: The Essential Introduction to the Enneagram by Riso & Hudson (focusing on who are you are)

May - The Body is Not an Apology, by Sonya Renee Taylor (focusing on body image)

June - Intuitive Eating by Tribole & Resch (focusing on making peace with food)

July - The Art of Money: A Life-Changing Guide to Financial Happiness by Bari Tessler (focusing on relationship with money)

August - Choose Wonder Over Worry: Move Beyond Fear and Doubt to Unlock Your Full Potential by Amber Rae (focusing on courage/fear)

September - The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes (focusing on boundaries)

October - Playing Big: A Practical Guide for Brilliant Women Like You by Tara Mohr (focusing on tackling the inner critic)

November - Daring Greatly by Brené Brown (focusing on leaping forward)

Participation in the book club is free, but each member is responsible for purchasing their own book. All books are available at locally owned Starline Books by calling them at 423-777-5629 to order and pre-order. As a member of the book club, you will receive 10 percent off.

Every evening will begin at 6 p.m. Meetings will take place at The Chattery’s space, located inside of Chattanooga WorkSpace, 302 W 6th St.
