GPS Graduate Katie Johnson Gets Married, Sells Network TV Pilot

  • Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Katie Johnson (now Katie J. Stone) married Nick Stone, classical percussionist, on Sept. 1 at the Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina, Hi. The wedding was coordinated by Amanda Douglas and officiated by Pulitzer Prize winner Scott Gold (“Chicago PD”, “Shooter”). The bride's writing partner, David Daitch (“Shooter”), served as her man-of-honor, and the bridesmaids included fellow GPS Alumni Emi Piez ('04) and Emily Dake ('03). The couple became engaged on July 11, 2018.

Following her wedding, Katie immediately returned from Hawaii to Los Angeles and sold a network TV pilot.

“Adversaries” is a drama about the female leader of the Navy’s Top Gun fighter pilot school in Key West. Written by Sean Finegan and Katie J. Stone & David Daitch, the show centers on Lara Bryer, a trailblazing fighter pilot who takes charge of the Navy’s most elite flight school in Key West. But training Top Gun pilots in supersonic aerial combat is nothing compared to the challenges she’ll face on the ground, from navigating life as a newly single working mom to breaking through the glass ceiling in a field so male-dominated that as of 2019, less than 3 percent of navy fighter pilots are women.

The series comes from ABC’s “The Good Doctor” star/co-exec producer Freddie Highmore and SONY Pictures TV. Highmore executive produces with Sean Finegan, Katie J. Stone and David Daitch who is a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve.

The writing team of Katie J. Stone and David Daitch met at USC where Katie was in the elite Writing for Screen and Television BFA Program. To date, their credits include USA’s “Shooter” and “Call of Duty.” In addition to writing on "Shooter," Katie played the role of Sarah Beckett.

When she first arrived in Los Angeles from Chattanooga, Katie was soon discovered as a fine art model by world renowned photographer David LaChapelle. LaChapelle's first photograph to include Katie, The Deluge, was used on the cover of French art photography magazine Photo Magazine. She also modeled for LaChapelle's fine art projects Auguries of Innocence, Bliss Amongst Chaos, Awakened, and The Raft, which was shot on location at LaChapelle's sustainable living ranch in Hana-Maui, Hawaii. LaChapelle cast Katie as the star of his "anti-commercial" ten-minute long art film and international campaign for Swedish brand Happy Socks, Happy Accidents: The Exorsocks, and she is featured on select bottles of Castellare di Castellina red wine.

Katie believes in giving back. She has volunteered her time and image with Pin-ups for Vets, a non-profit where models dress as World War II-style pin-up girls to raise funds for wounded veterans and deployed troops, and she currently serves as director of development for More Than NO, a non-profit that champions consent culture through artistic activism.
